Project description
Fier is a cooking application designed for individuals with mild dementia who are still capable of performing daily tasks. Although they can cook independently, issues can arise, such as accidentally leaving the stove on. This is where Fier comes in—a smart cooking timer that guides users through the cooking process. By keeping users both physically and mentally engaged, Fier helps to delay the progression of dementia and supports them in maintaining their independence.
Fier incorporates several safety features to support individuals with mild dementia while cooking. It provides automatic timer alerts, both audible and visual, to remind users when cooking time is nearing its end and ensure they check their food. The application can also be integrated with smart stove technology to monitor if the stove is left on after use, sending alerts or even turning it off if necessary.

Fier offers step-by-step cooking instructions to guide users through recipes, reducing the risk of mistakes and helping them stay focused. An emergency button within the app allows users to quickly alert a caregiver or family member if they encounter difficulties.
Voice commands make the app easier to use hands-free, minimizing the risk of accidents. Recipes can be customized with simplified instructions and visual aids, making them easier to follow. Regular reminders prompt users to check on their food or perform other tasks related to cooking. Additionally, caregivers or family members can monitor the user's cooking activity remotely, providing extra oversight and intervention if needed.
These features collectively enhance safety and support users in maintaining their independence while cooking, helping to prevent accidents and manage the challenges of mild dementia.
